Colchester East Hants After School Program Leader

Overview:

Are you an energetic person who values physical activity and enjoys working with children and youth? The Colchester East Hants After School Committee is recruiting After School Program Leaders for our Spring 2014 Session. Recreation departments from five municipalities in Colchester East Hants counties are partnering with the Chignecto Central Regional School Board to deliver fun, interactive programs in ten schools within the region.  We are looking for passionate, energetic, mature leaders with an interest in developing leadership skills to lead our programs.  The programs will be physical activity-focused, with elements of play, self-leadership and teamwork. The programs take place directly after school, and we are looking for leaders who want to be a part of a dynamic team.

Who we are looking for:

As an After School Program Leader, you will play a strong role in the design, promotion and delivery of after school programs for youth ages 10-14.  You have an interest in working with children/youth, and you understand the importance of being a positive role model. You enjoy physical activity and/or sport and/or recreation and are interested in learning new skills around youth engagement and delivering quality programs which promote being active for life.  

You enjoy working in a team environment, and will be a good teammate to your co-workers, the Regional After School Coordinator and After School Committee. You can express your ideas, solve problems, and you have strong communication skills with other team members.  

 

Duties:

  • Assist in designing and promoting after school programs in cooperation with Regional After School Coordinator
  • Lead the delivery and supervision of after school program, in cooperation with other after school program leaders
  • Make sure programs are fun and high quality for all participants
  • Manage administration duties for the program
  • Coordinate healthy snack for program participants
  • Take part in on-going regional leadership development opportunities
  • Assist in evaluation of after school program in cooperation with Regional After School Coordinator  

Qualifications:

  • High energy with a positive outlook
  • Volunteer or work experience in that involves children/youth is an asset
  • Passion for working with children/youth a must
  • Maturity and integrity
  • Enthusiastic individual who believes it is important to be physically active and have fun
  • Strong communication skills
  • Some understanding of risk management and delivery safe programs  

Participating Schools (CCRSB):

Please indicate in your cover letter which schools you would be interested and available to work with. Each school will offer programs twice/week (see time slots below), the schedule will be made after program leaders are hired.

Truro Junior High 3:00 – 6:00pm Bible Hill Junior High 2:30 – 5:30pm Central Colchester Junior High 1:30 – 4:30pm
Hants North Rural High 2:15 – 5:15pm   Uniacke District School 1:30 – 4:30pm Riverside Education Center 2:15 – 5:15pm

Wage:
$12.00/hr.
