Ministers Direction to delay Annual Meetings and Elections

On Wednesday, May 20, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (DMAH) announced a new directive for Villages in Nova Scotia to delay statutorily required annual meetings of electors and elections of Village Commissioners until the 90-day period following the expiration of the current Provincial state of emergency.

This direction requires Villages to delay annual meetings and elections, otherwise required up until Wednesday under the Municipal Government Act, until they can be held in a safer public health environment.

Village Commissioner terms expiring in June are expected to be extended and candidates duly nominated during the May nomination period will be carried forward until an election can be held following the expiration of the Provincial state of emergency.
