Main Street Sidewalk Renovation

Starting July 4 until August 2, the sidewalk on Main Street, Bible Hill (between Century Honda and Windsor Avenue) will be closed for construction.

For those with accessibility needs which may be impacted by the closure, please get in touch with the Village office to discuss how we can accommodate.

Traffic Alerts:

Main Street will have a one-way traffic detour which Nova Scotia Department of Public Works has approved. Traffic normally in the lane closest to the sidewalk will be detoured at Pictou Road to Vimy Road and Farnham Road, rejoining Main Street at Park Street.

Signage and other traffic control measures will be in place to guide drivers. Please be cautious when entering the work area, as traffic will be flowing in only one direction.

The contractor will do their best to minimize driveway disruptions and provide gravel ramps for access. Please drive slowly on the ramps.

Avoid parking on Main Street or the detour route to reduce congestion.

Meet your election candidates for Village Commissioner

candidates

With election polling taking place in Bible Hill this coming Tuesday, June 6, and Saturday, June 10, we are sharing the following photos and write-ups provided by the three candidates so that the community has an opportunity to learn more about them ahead of voting.

Meet Hema Chopra:

Hema

I am excited to be running for Commissioner of the Village of Bible Hill! I am the proud mom of Vijay and Sanjeev Makkar and partner to Raj Makkar. If you know any of these 3 fellas, you must know I have to have a sense of humour to live with them! I work in Bible Hill as a Senior Diversity Programming Specialist and have been employed with the province since 1995. As a proud resident of our community for the past 28 years, I have witnessed the growth, challenges, and the incredible spirit that makes Bible Hill Village so special. Now, I am ready to step up and serve as your advocate and representative.

I have strong community connections, experience in business and financial management and reporting, and I’m committed to transparency and accountability. I was recently awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of my contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. I will do my best to ensure decision-making processes are inclusive, accessible, and accountable. I will focus on initiatives that improve infrastructure, support local businesses, and promote sustainable development.

Our community’s well-being and quality of life are of priority. I am dedicated to serving you and advocating for a vision of a prosperous and inclusive community. With your support, we can build a brighter future together.

Meet Dwight Giddens:

Dwight

This upcoming election will give the opportunity for new faces, new ideas and the chance to build a better Bible Hill for everyone. As we endeavor to leave behind the effects of COVID-19 we need to take all that we have learned and apply it forward to building a better future.

My volunteer work started in 2006 and continues today. In the past 10 years I have been a volunteer behind the scenes at Scotia Pool and for the past 5 years I have been the chair of Scotia Pool Society. Navigating our way through the COVID crises and successfully dealing with the Municipality of the County of Colchester on funding initiatives, has given me the experience to work effectively in tough times and with an eye on improving our future. In 2021 I was presented with an Outstanding Community Service Award on behalf of the Village of Bible Hill for my volunteer work and you can expect the same dedication as a Commissioner.

In 1982 I started and grew R&D Performancenter, a performance-based business based in Lr. Onslow until the business was sold in 2006, but continued my career there until I retired in May 2022. From 2008-2012 I was the president of the Maritime League of Legends, a promotional group set up to grow motorsports in the Maritimes. The success in my business and behind the scenes in growing motorsports in the Maritimes, ultimately lead to my induction into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame in November of 2022.

I will be a strong voice for the residents of Bible Hill in solving local issues and for the responsible spending of your tax dollars.

On the advance poll Tuesday June 6th or on election day June 10th I ask for your support and confidence in me to be a strong voice for you as your Commissioner.

You can reach me by phone 902-897-8313 or email dgiddens55@gmail .com

“Working to grow Bible Hill together”

Meet Tim Shea:

Tim

Having started my term at the height of the pandemic, I quickly learned to conduct the Village's business through adversity.

It has been my great pleasure to have sat as Chair of the Protective Services Committee and Vice Chair of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and I now enjoy my roll as Chair of Environmental Health Services Committee and am the Village's elected representative member on the Regional Accessibility Advisory Committee.

At the Association of Nova Scotia Villages' AGM held here in Bible Hill last September, I took on greater responsibility having been voted in as Vice President.

I've lived in Bible Hill for 19 years, raising my family in this great community, and I ask for your continued support to be your voice at the table.

Happy 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month

Happy 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month! 🌈

It's that time of the year when we come together to celebrate and honor the incredible diversity and resilience of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This month, we proudly stand in solidarity with our friends, family, and allies.

Celebrated annually in June, 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride honors the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (and more) communities.

Pride Month is a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. It's a time to embrace and honor the courage of those who have fought and continue to fight for equality, justice, and acceptance.

This month is an opportunity for us to educate ourselves, support local 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, and amplify the voices of those whose stories deserve to be heard.

To our 2SLGBTQIA+ friends, you are seen, valued, and loved. Your authenticity and strength inspire us all. Let's continue to celebrate our unique identities and foster a world where everyone can live their truth without fear of discrimination.

Join us as we stand united in the pursuit of a more inclusive and equal society. Spread love, acceptance, and compassion, not just during Pride Month, but every single day. Together, we can make a difference and create a world where everyone can thrive.
